Although the end of the age of the book is frequently anticipated nowadays, buildings for books are still being erected. As one of the world’s oldest architectural tasks, libraries have always had to adapt to contemporary social, scholarly and technological developments. The aim of the study is to produce an architectural-history analysis of the library as an architectural task from the late Middle Ages to the present day.
