Spaces for Gods and Heroes.
Architecture and Antique Sculptures from the Middle Ages to this Day

Statues are among the most valuable remains of the ancient world. Already in the Middle Ages they were appreciated, yet their valuation grew rapidly in the Renaissance. In its course buildings were erected which served the sole purpose of storing such statues. This led to an interplay of statues and buildings; the sculptures influenced the architecture and, simultaneously, the architecture affected the way the sculptures were perceived.
