Law & Order in Architecture

Law and order have always been determing in building the world. The seminar will examine in particular the architecture and urbanism where control, regulation, education and surveillance are the dictum of the conception. Utopian cities of the Renaissance and the Enlightment are going to be discussed as well as the emergence of prisons and the formation of mandatory building codes. Furthermore we are analyzing the planned cities of totalitarian states, the urban visions of Modernism and current methods of surveillance.
After all also oppositions to authoritarian concepts of architecture are part of the subject.
