Besides the early utopia of the futurists the lecture will present exemplary works of the time of fascism (1922-44) and puts them in their political and cultural context. By reference to significant buildings the issue of a specific Italian reinterpretation of the architectural heritage and its key terms will be examined.

Questions about the relationship of architecture and politics as well as the breakingpoint of modernity impose themselves so compellingly only in a few other chapters in the history of architecture and art than in the Italian modernity. Besides the early utopia of the futurists the lecture will present exemplary works of the time of fascism (1922-44) and puts them in their political and cultural context. By reference to significant buildings the issue of a specific Italian reinterpretation of the architectural heritage and its key terms will be examined.
